Prerequisites

  • ✓Java 8+ (JRE or JDK) installed

Install Java and download JMeter

Ubuntu / Debian
sudo apt install -y default-jdk
RHEL / CentOS Stream / Fedora
sudo dnf install -y java-17-openjdk
download JMeter (any distro — it's a plain tarball)
curl -LO https://dlcdn.apache.org/jmeter/binaries/apache-jmeter-5.6.3.tgz
tar xzf apache-jmeter-5.6.3.tgz
cd apache-jmeter-5.6.3

Launch the GUI (to build a test plan)

terminal
./bin/jmeter
!

Build and debug test plans in the GUI, but always run real load tests in non-GUI mode — the GUI itself consumes significant resources.

Run a test plan (non-GUI) and verify

terminal
./bin/jmeter --version
./bin/jmeter -n -t test-plan.jmx -l results.jtl -e -o ./report
