Prerequisites

  • ✓A Linux host with snapd (Ubuntu ships it by default), 4 GB+ RAM

Enable snapd on RHEL, CentOS Stream, or Fedora first

Ubuntu ships snapd out of the box; RHEL-family distros don't, so install and enable it before the snap command below will work at all.

terminal
sudo dnf install -y epel-release
sudo dnf install -y snapd
sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
# log out and back in, or reboot, so the snap binary is on PATH

Install MicroK8s

terminal
sudo snap install microk8s --classic
sudo usermod -aG microk8s $USER
mkdir -p ~/.kube && sudo chown -R $USER ~/.kube
newgrp microk8s

Enable common add-ons

terminal
microk8s enable dns dashboard storage

Verify the installation

terminal
microk8s status --wait-ready
microk8s kubectl get nodes
