Prerequisites

  • ✓A Linux host with sudo access

Install Fluent Bit

terminal
curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fluent/fluent-bit/master/install.sh | sh
!

This script already detects RHEL/Fedora vs. Debian/Ubuntu itself and installs the matching rpm or deb package — no separate command needed per distro.

Install Fluentd (fluent-package) on Ubuntu

terminal
curl -fsSL https://toolbelt.treasuredata.com/sh/install-ubuntu-jammy-fluent-package5.sh | sh

Install Fluentd (fluent-package) on RHEL / Enterprise Linux 9

terminal
curl -fsSL https://toolbelt.treasuredata.com/sh/install-redhat9-fluent-package5.sh | sh
!

Treasure Data's toolbelt ships a matching install-<distro>-fluent-package5.sh script per supported OS/release — swap the URL's distro segment (redhat9, redhat8, ubuntu-jammy, debian-bookworm, etc.) to match your host.

Verify and run

terminal
fluent-bit --version
# tail the syslog and print to stdout:
fluent-bit -i tail -p path=/var/log/syslog -o stdout
