How to Install & Set Up Harbor

Install Harbor — a container registry with vulnerability scanning and RBAC — using the official online installer.

Updated 20263-step setupDownload Harbor →

Prerequisites

  • ✓A Linux host with Docker and Docker Compose
  • ✓A resolvable hostname and, ideally, a TLS certificate
  • ✓2 CPUs / 4 GB RAM minimum

Download the installer

Grab the latest online installer tarball from the Harbor releases and extract it.

terminal
curl -LO https://github.com/goharbor/harbor/releases/download/v2.11.0/harbor-online-installer-v2.11.0.tgz
tar xzvf harbor-online-installer-v2.11.0.tgz
cd harbor
cp harbor.yml.tmpl harbor.yml

Configure and install

Edit harbor.yml — set hostname and either configure the https block or comment it out for an http-only test — then run the installer.

terminal
sudo ./install.sh
!

This installer is a Docker Compose wrapper, so it runs identically on RHEL, Fedora, Debian, or Ubuntu — the only real prerequisite is Docker Engine and Docker Compose already being installed on the host.

Verify

Open https://your-hostname and log in as admin with the harbor_admin_password from harbor.yml, then push an image:

terminal
docker login your-hostname
docker tag alpine your-hostname/library/alpine:test
docker push your-hostname/library/alpine:test
