Prerequisites

  • ✓A host with Docker
  • ✓Services instrumented with OpenTelemetry or the Jaeger clients

Run the all-in-one image

terminal
docker run -d --name jaeger \
  -p 16686:16686 \
  -p 4317:4317 -p 4318:4318 \
  jaegertracing/all-in-one:latest
!

Ports 4317/4318 accept OpenTelemetry (OTLP) gRPC/HTTP spans; 16686 serves the UI. all-in-one keeps traces in memory — use a real storage backend (Cassandra, Elasticsearch) for production. This is a container image, so the command is identical on RHEL and Ubuntu hosts.

Verify

Open http://localhost:16686, generate some traced requests, and search for them by service in the UI.
