Guides / Infrastructure as Code

How to Install & Set Up Pulumi

Install Pulumi and define infrastructure with real programming languages — TypeScript, Python, Go, or .NET.

Updated 20263-step setupDownload Pulumi →

Prerequisites

  • ✓A language runtime you want to use (Node.js, Python, Go, or .NET)
  • ✓A Pulumi Cloud account or a self-managed state backend

Install the Pulumi CLI

Linux / macOS
curl -fsSL https://get.pulumi.com | sh
macOS (Homebrew)
brew install pulumi/tap/pulumi
Windows (Chocolatey)
choco install pulumi

Verify the installation

terminal
pulumi version
!

The install script and Homebrew/Chocolatey packages above are already the same on RHEL, Fedora, Debian, and Ubuntu — there's no separate distro-specific repo needed. Pulumi's CLI itself is source-available rather than fully open source; the SDKs it drives are Apache-2.0.

Create your first project

terminal
mkdir my-infra && cd my-infra
pulumi new typescript
pulumi up
