Prerequisites

  • ✓A server host for the Puppet server (4 GB+ RAM) and one or more agent nodes
  • ✓Resolvable hostnames and synchronized clocks (NTP) across all nodes

Add the Puppet 8 repository on Ubuntu 22.04

terminal
wget https://apt.puppet.com/puppet8-release-jammy.deb
sudo dpkg -i puppet8-release-jammy.deb
sudo apt update

Add the Puppet 8 repository on RHEL / Enterprise Linux 9

terminal
sudo rpm -Uvh https://yum.puppet.com/puppet8-release-el-9.noarch.rpm
!

Swap el-9 for el-8 on Enterprise Linux 8.

Install the server and agents

on the server (apt)
sudo apt install -y puppetserver
on each managed node (apt)
sudo apt install -y puppet-agent
on the server (dnf)
sudo dnf install -y puppetserver

Verify and run the agent
