Prerequisites

  • ✓A host with Docker (for the container method), or a Linux binary target

Option A — Run with Docker

terminal
docker run -d --name traefik \
  -p 80:80 -p 8080:8080 \
  -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock \
  traefik:v3.1 --api.insecure=true --providers.docker
!

The Docker provider auto-discovers other containers by their labels. Disable --api.insecure in production.

Option B — Binary

terminal
curl -L https://github.com/traefik/traefik/releases/download/v3.1.0/traefik_v3.1.0_linux_amd64.tar.gz -o traefik.tar.gz
tar xzf traefik.tar.gz
./traefik --api.insecure=true --providers.docker

Verify

Open http://localhost:8080 for the Traefik dashboard showing routers, services, and middlewares.

!

Traefik doesn't publish native apt/dnf packages — the Docker image and binary tarball above (both already distro-agnostic) are the two supported paths. It's Go, so `git clone https://github.com/traefik/traefik.git && make binary` is a genuine from-source build too.
