How to Install & Set Up Flux CD

Install the Flux CLI and bootstrap the GitOps toolkit so your cluster continuously reconciles with a Git repository.

Updated 20263-step setupDownload Flux CD →

Prerequisites

  • ✓A Kubernetes cluster and kubectl configured
  • ✓A GitHub/GitLab personal access token with repo scope

Install the Flux CLI

Linux
curl -s https://fluxcd.io/install.sh | sudo bash
macOS (Homebrew)
brew install fluxcd/tap/flux

Check the cluster is ready

terminal
flux check --pre

Bootstrap Flux against your repo

terminal
export GITHUB_TOKEN=<your-pat>
flux bootstrap github \
  --owner=my-org \
  --repository=my-fleet \
  --branch=main \
  --path=./clusters/my-cluster \
  --personal
!

Bootstrap commits the Flux components into your repo and installs them — from then on, Git is the source of truth. The install script and CLI binary above are identical on RHEL and Ubuntu; Flux itself is a genuinely open source Go project buildable from source via `git clone https://github.com/fluxcd/flux2.git && make build`.
