How to Install & Set Up Spinnaker

Install Spinnaker on Kubernetes using the Halyard configuration tool for multi-cloud continuous delivery.

Updated 20263-step setupDownload Spinnaker →

Prerequisites

  • ✓A Kubernetes cluster and kubectl configured
  • ✓An object storage bucket (S3, GCS, or Minio) for Spinnaker's persistent config
  • ✓Halyard (Spinnaker's installer/CLI) or the Spinnaker Operator

Install Halyard (Debian/Ubuntu only)

Halyard's automated installer genuinely only supports Debian and Ubuntu — there's no RHEL/CentOS/Fedora equivalent script, which is unusual among the tools in this catalog and worth knowing before you provision a host for it.

terminal
curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/spinnaker/halyard/master/install/debian/InstallHalyard.sh
sudo bash InstallHalyard.sh
hal -v
!

On RHEL-family hosts, skip Halyard entirely and use the Spinnaker Operator instead — it deploys Spinnaker onto any Kubernetes cluster (kubectl apply -f, Helm chart available) regardless of the underlying node OS.

Configure and deploy

Choose a cloud provider, a storage backend, and the target version, then deploy.

terminal
hal config provider kubernetes enable
hal config storage s3 edit --bucket my-spinnaker-bucket
hal config storage edit --type s3
hal version list
hal config version edit --version 1.35.0
hal deploy apply
!

For a distributed install onto Kubernetes, run 'hal config deploy edit --type distributed --account-name my-k8s-account' before deploying.

Access the UI

terminal
hal deploy connect
